Smith Lankford, General Manager
As the General Manager of QuadPackaging, Smith oversees all packaging operations at our Franklin, WI; Spartanburg, SC; Omaha, NE and Dominican Republic facilities as well as our overseas business relationships with Asian and Central American manufacturing partners. He began his packaging career after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with an accounting degree, working for Color Craft Packaging, CCL Label and Sonoco Engraph. He then joined Cadmus Communications and served as the company’s Vice President of Finance. After Cenveo acquired Cadmus in 2007, Smith was responsible for financial consolidation of multiple facilities. He also was a member of the team responsible for Cenveo’s acquisition of Rex Corporation. He joined Copac’s Spartanburg management team as Chief Financial Officer in 2009. He continued in that role following our Copac acquisition until he was named Group Controller – Packaging in November of 2015. Smith was named the General Manger for QuadPackaging Spartanburg in April of 2016. With this experience Smith brings a great vision as our product offering and manufacturing footprint continues to evolve.
Matt Bourke, Plant Director – Omaha, NE
Matt, a 23-year Quad employee, is the Plant Director in our Omaha, Nebraska, facility. He has honed his leadership skills through key management roles in our Hartford, Merced and Saratoga Springs plants, as well as time spent in our corporate Continuous Improvement group. Most recently, Matt led the Finishing Department at Quad’s Saratoga Springs plant, where he was responsible for all aspects of productivity, quality, Lean, safety and employee training.
Wade Bryant, Plant Director – Spartanburg, SC
Wade has been a part of our Spartanburg, SC family since 2009, serving as Director of Technical Services before taking on the Plant Director position in 2018. With a diverse background in the different areas of print production, Wade’s knowledge will be an asset while leading the operations in Spartanburg. Wade came to Quad in 2015 with the acquisition of Copac Global Packaging. He graduated from Clemson University with a graphic communications degree and began his packaging career in 1995 as a prepress and production intern with Printpack. He also worked in customer service for Banta Digital Group. In 1999, he was hired by Cadmus Communications where he held positions in: quality assurance, CAD, purchasing, customer service and production. In 2009, he briefly worked for Malnove Inc. as Supply Chain Director before joining Copac.
Paul Nowak, Sr. Director of Strategy and Development
Paul is our Director of Customer Experience, based in our Franklin, WI plant. Paul focuses on a number of customer-facing initiatives and the development of the QuadPackaging brand. Paul’s diverse responsibilities leverage his his deep understanding of packaging operations, customer service experience and strong leadership skills. Paul started his career in packaging as a Finishing Department Inspector in 1994 with Beck Carton Company - the predecessor of Proteus Packaging - responsible for ensuring quality as it came off the plant’s production lines. He worked in Scheduling, Estimating and Customer Service before being named Customer Service Manager in 1998. He later added the role of Production Manager, and was promoted to General Manager of Proteus Packaging in 2002. During his career at Proteus, he helped create and develop the Proteus Brand, with services like PacXtra, a comprehensive set of solutions for using inserts/outserts, security tags and adhesive labels on packaging products. Paul has a bachelor’s degree in business from Cardinal Stritch University.
Alan Parnell, Sales Manager
Alan Parnell began his career in printing at a young age while growing up in a family owned print shop. He continued his interest in printing and majored in Graphic Arts Printing and minored in Business at Appalachian State University. He graduated in 1989 and in the same year began working at Winston Printing in Marketing, Customer Service and Sales. In 1992, he moved to Washburn Graphics as an Account Executive which was later consolidated into Cadmus Communications. Alan was assigned to lead the new group's packaging division, which he grew into the role of Vice President of Sales- Packaging in 1999. He then expanded his role even further by launching the group's global packaging endeavors and becoming President of that operation in 2004. Alan teamed with former QuadPackaging - Spartanburg General Manager, Jerry Lux, and others to acquire Copac, Inc. in Spartanburg, SC in March of 2009. During his time at Copac Global Packaging, Alan headed a global sales group that made a dramatic leap in revenue and helped break ground on a facility in the Dominican Republic. Since Copac's aquistion in April of 2015, Alan has continued growing QuadPackaging's efforts both domestically and globally.
Mike Prock, Plant Director – Franklin, WI
Mike Prock returned to Wisconsin after serving as the Plant Director for the Quad/Graphics Saratoga Springs facility. Mike is an exceptional communicator, team builder and collaborator with a proven track record of improving performance through war room accountability and continuous improvement. Now entering his 30th year with the company, Mike spent the first 25 years in Saratoga before being named Pewaukee’s Plant Director in 2013. In 2015, he became Hartford Plant Director, a role he held until August 2017 when he moved back to Saratoga.
Brian Thalken, Sales Manager
Brian Thalken is a Sales Manager based in QuadPackaging’s production plant in Omaha, NE. Drawing on his more than 30 years of packaging experience, Brian brings a focused, consultative approach to solving his customers’ unique challenges. Brian began his career in 1984 at Gibraltar Packaging where he worked in its sample room then in die manufacturing, and then in sales. In 2003, Brian was hired by the owner of Folder Express to help start up a folding carton company named Specialty Finishing. Brian managed all of Specialty Finishing’s sales accounts, contributing to the organization’s double-digit growth over a 12-year period by developing strong relationships with his clients. Brian was a minority partner in Specialty Finishing when Quad/Packaging acquired the company in 2015. Brian has a degree in business administration and marketing from Kearney State College, now the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Tim Wayman, Technical Services Manager - Franklin, WI
Tim Wayman is the Technical Services Manager of QuadPackaging’s folding carton packaging plant in Franklin, WI. As Technical Services Manager, Tim oversees special projects and manages the onboarding of new customers and works to establish good working relations. Tim began his packaging career in 1970 as a Material Handler working on a folder-gluer in Milwaukee’s Beck Carton Corp., which became Proteus Packaging in 2004. Early in his career, his keen understanding of packaging design and customer needs resulted in promotions into roles of increasing responsibility. He was named Beck Carton Corp. Plant Manager in 1976 and Vice President of Manufacturing in 1986. In 1995, he was promoted to Executive Vice President. Underscoring his hands-on approach to business, Tim was directly involved in the design and construction of the Franklin folding carton plant, where Proteus moved in 2007. Quad/Graphics acquired Proteus in 2013.
